(More customer reviews)I bought one of these without guide rail a couple months ago and it has been invaluable.I bought a Festool 55" rail to go with it, since they are compatible and Festool has more accessories (which would probably work on the Makita rails too).I built my own multi function table, including a Kreg flip-stop system. It makes a great little panel saw.I found that the dust bag from my Dewalt miter saw fits it and collects 80-90%; goodbye vacuum hose.Okay down to pros and cons.
Pros:
It is British-made (with a Japanese name??).It is very accurate; it even does well at skimming the edge of a board. It comes with a good blade. It comes in a teal systainer. It is powerful enough for everything I've thrown at it: plywood, hardwoods, etc.It has a little tab that extends into a slot in the Makita guide rail to keep the saw from tipping when you have it leaning over at 45 degrees (Festool rails do not have this slot).
Cons:
As others have said, the dust chute rotates too easily.Makita shows a nice rip fence in the manual, but I haven't found it available anywhere. The cord is only 6' long, though it hasn't been a problem. The depth scale is metric.
To sum up, it's an invaluable asset in a small cabinet shop or in the field, which can easily give the Festool a run for its money. The pros easily outweigh the cons.
