When possible use a Thin Steel blade on 1/8" and under mild steel materials.Also, blades will spark once the carbide tips are worn off. This usually happens when the machine is pushed through the work piece. Try easing back. As you know, you can't do to metal what you can do with wood. If anyone is wondering if this applies to them to here's how to know for certain: Take the blade off and look around the arbor hole.Did the flanges scratch your blade?
