Kawasaki 840055 Black 19.2-Volt 4-Tool Cordless Combo Kit Review

First - the tools.I've owned the Kawasaki drill for a while, it works great, and that was a major point for purchasing the set. The tools work great for the average homeowner / amateur woodworker. They probably aren't made at the level that dewalt stuff is made.but then again i never intended to work them for a living.decent battery life nice handling. overall 3.5-4 (of 5) on use scale. note, if you have one the older kawasaki drills (tools) there is a recall on the chargers. check yours.

on the downside. who ever packaged my shipment should have his paycheck docked for the crappy job he/she did.the box that the set came in was one of the worst packaging jobs I've ever seen. lets start with the box itself. the box was actually 2 boxes cut in half and secured together for a 30lb kit with one piece of tape.inside, well the tool case itself was padded with a single piece of bubble wrap that covered maybe 30% of the tool case, wrapping one time around the plastic case. no interior padding to keep the plastic case from getting beat around inside the poorly secured box.when i picked up the box off my porch the top just came off in my hands and it appeared (from the look of the single piece of tape) that it had done that a couple of times thru the shipping process. If someone along the line in the shipping process wanted to have some tools, it would have been nothing for them to lift off the top and take what they wanted, leaving me to dispute the shipping with the company.luckily, nothing was taken / damaged when i got it.

packing score 0 out of 5.

Milwaukee 48-59-2818 18-Volt to 28-Volt Lithium-Ion and NiCad Slide Style 1-Hour Battery Charger Review

Milwaukee 48-59-2818 18-Volt to 28-Volt Lithium-Ion and NiCad Slide Style 1-Hour Battery Charger

This charger is way better at topping off and keeping older Milwaukee NiCads charged then the older charger model. I highly recommend this as an upgrade to those using the older style charger that at least in my case would charge the battery then let it run down if it set on the charger unused for a week because it didn't have a proper top off trickle charge feature. This charger also seems to get a bit more juice into the Ni-cads as well, and of course it also charged the lithium ion batteries that are very powerful.

Product Description:
The Milwaukee 18-to-28-Volt Universal Battery Charger charges both Li-Ion and Ni-Cad batteries from 18-to-28-volts. This universal charger makes the transition from Ni-Cad to newer Li-Ion batteries seamless by providing single charger simplicity. The charger will charge Li-ion batteries in 1-hour and Ni-Cad batteries in 40-minutes. Ni-Cad packs will charge 20-minutes faster on this charger than the current Milwaukee Ni-Cad-only chargers. The charger also features a top-off conditioning mode that automatically conditions 18-volt Ni-Cad battery cells for extended battery life. Automatic temperature monitoring continually monitors the battery's temperature and deliverers the appropriate current for that temperature. Progressive charge indication battery LEDs light up incrementally as the battery is charged. This feature provides a quick indication of remaining charge time or if the pack is charged enough for the job at hand. A pass-through plug conserves valuable outlet space and rubberized feet keeps the charger in place.

Milwaukee 48-11-1830 V18 18-Volt 3.0 Amp Hour Lithium-Ion Slide Style Battery Review

Milwaukee 48-11-1830 V18 18-Volt 3.0 Amp Hour Lithium-Ion Slide Style Battery

I chose to give the V18 3.0ah Milwaukee battery a 2 star review because... When you're in the middle of drilling a 4-1/8" hole in a piece of 3/4 plywood you don't want you battery to shut down. When I say shut-down I mean completely quit working.

Here's my story - I am in the construction industry; framing, trim, cabinetry, remodel, whatever... I've have a set of Milwaukee V18 cordless tools for at least 2 and 1/2 years - that includes: the hammer drill with 550 in/lbs of torque, impact driver with 1,440 in/lbs of torque, recrocating saw (sawzall), 6-1/2" circluar saw, flashlight, and impact wrench with 240 ft/lbs of torque, and I have 7 BATTERIES - (4) V18 3.0ha and (3) NiCd 2.4ah batteries.

All of these Milwaukee tools have a tremendous amount of power for 18V - The drill is unbeatable (although a little heavy), as is the impact driver (that is a little louder and heavier than other brands - however more powerful, the circular saw and sawzall don't see much use (but have preformed when needed), the impact driver is the BOMB (seriously, it has a lot of power - and, by the way, how do you use a hand ratchet anymore - really?, really?), the flashlight is better than the rest (but it's just a fashlight).

And the batteries. They last, and last, and last - the V18 Lithium-ion batteries have a charge indicator, and they are gauranteed for 2000 charges (before 1000 charges you get a new battery, and btw 1000 and 2000 charges you get a replaced battery at a pro-rated cost). The 2.4ah NiCd batteries have almost nearly the same power as the V18 batteries, but they don't last as long. An upside of the V18 batteries is they last longer, the downside is that once they die, they die, no warning, nothing - the bit stops turning, the blade stops mid-spin, and the screw stops moving. The V18 batteries also SHUT DOWN.

Getting back to the TWO STAR REVIEW
- The V18 Lithium-ion batteries shut down. What I mean by "shut down" is a fresh, newly charged will shut down under these circumstances - you're using a sawzall and the blade gets stuck, you let off of the trigger, when you try to get the blade out of the work and pull the trigger again, the battery shuts down because it is operating under a load and "too much" torque is put on the tool. Another example, you are drilling a big hole into a thick piece of metal - the drill is plenty powerful enough, and the bit is razor sharp, but when you get to the end of the cut and the metal lets the bit punch through and then catches on the backside, the V18 battery shuts down because the drill undergoes too much torque. A similar sinario incurrs when using the circular saw and the grain of the wood pinches the blade - the battery shuts the saw down becuase it is operating under too much load.

The point is that I would trade my (4) V18 batteries for (2) NiCd batteries because at least with a NiCd battery you can remove your bit or blade from the workpiece if the battery dies or is under too much stress. Oh and by the way, in order to revive a fresh yet shut down V18 battery you just have to put it back on the charger. My question is - what if I don't have 120v power to plug my charger into?

Don't take this review as a knock on Milwaukee tools - I love my milwaukee tools, they are the most reliable and powerful tools made. The V18 Lithium-ion batteries are powerful, but not reliable because they SHUT DOWN. I recommend the NiCd batteries to work with this set of 18v tools - - - I haven't tried the new M18 tools from Milwaukee - they look a little non-heavy-duty to me, and I'm a little disappointed that they changed the battery platform; because what if the new M18 batteries shut down in the middle of doing something? - then you don't have a NiCd cousin for backup. Think about that!!

I Hope this review helped in your researching efforts.

Not a big ryobi fan until I bought a 7 tool kit for $249 in 06.I was expecting a sub-par codless tool, but was pleasently surprised. I am a carpenter by trade(20 yrs) and have resorted to using this little saw for almost all of my cuts for 2 reasons. 1. It is light as a feather. It is cordless and It goes way beyond my expectations for a little trim saw!Only bogs down in thick 2 inch material after hours of use.I just couldn't be happier. With a sharp finish blade, this saw is just unbeatable. The impact driver is also amazing. It will go all day driving 2 and three inch screws and I still had battery left after my co-workers makita went dead. I have left it out in the rain and beat it up worse than any of my other tools (because I was expecting it to fail and be a piece of junk) and it just takes a licking and keeps on ticking. The only tool of the 7 pack that I purchased which I haven't been impressed with is the recip. saw. It drains your battery and is only good in a pinch for a short amount of time. Other than that, I have had no problems with any of the tools and I use them on a continuous daily basis. I am not easily impressed, but my hat is off to ryobi on this specific tool kit. I have rarley had any tool that lasts for 3 years of the continous use and abuse that I put it through. The best part is that I only spent $250 for a 7 tool pack and have gotten thousands of dollars of production out of them. Finally for once, my expectations were exceeded.

Ryobi 18V ONE+ Lithium-Ion 5-1/2" Cordless Circular Saw P503 (Bare tool only, battery and charger not included) Review

Ryobi 18V ONE+ Lithium-Ion 5-1/2' Cordless Circular Saw P503
Average Reviews:

There is no way you would buy this saw unless you already happened to have a Ryobi 18V One+ battery. It is just too lightweight and there are relatively few cases where a corded circular saw wouldn't be the proper choice in terms of power and price value.

Having said that, I already had the batteries and I've found this saw reasonably useful in cutting the occasional board while building a child's play area. I'd have preferred more power, but it is able to cut wood up to 1.5 inches--the smallest dimension of a "2x4"-- cleanly albeit slowly. The grip is comfortable and it was easy enough following a pencil line for cutting. The included blade is of good quality and the battery pack is conveniently located. Changing blades is a bit awkward, as it is difficult getting the blade tightened properly with the included Allen wrench. Adjusting depth of cut is simple: twist a single knob to loosen the base plate and make your adjustment using a convenient gauge, then tighten the knob.

I've found the Ryobi 18V One+ tools are of good quality and design, and would highly recommend the drills, impact drivers and even the reciprocating saw in the One+ collection, but there are limits to what a cordless tool can and should do and this circular saw is just on the line for marginal usefulness.
