(More customer reviews)Don't bother with it.The saw arrived with the blade a quarter of an inch out of square.I worked for 15 minutes trying to loosen two of the eight screws necessary to adjust it.Never did get them un-done before I noticed the plastic case around the motor was split in two places.When I payed more attention to the way the motor was mounted in the saw, I recognized that is was so flimsy that it would never stay in one place while cutting.Returned it immediately!

(More customer reviews)After borrowing dad's skil and buying a black and decker its no surprise that this saw intriqued me.Great power fairly light and the left blade makes it easy to cut without a fence.It just feels smooth and cuts with effortless ease.I bought this saw because of the brand name and price which was around a $100. I wanted to avoid crabsman tools and buy a tool from a well known manufacturer.

(More customer reviews)I have a recently built US version of this saw, . . . production has now been moved to China, so this review may or may not apply. The Chinese version looks the same from the outside.

This saw has great balance. It uses worm drive gearing with an oil box for cooling and lubrication. Accordingly the saw has very high torque and is much quieter than traditional circular saws. The handles are well positioned for easy grip and handling.

The saw is pretty heavy. . . this provides for very smooth cutting and low vibration. Highly recommended for people that want to buy lifetime tools.

(More customer reviews)This is my 4th circular saw. I have a Skilsaw 77 worm drive, 2 Makitas, 1 blade on the right and one cordless blade on the left now this one.

One of the features I was most interested in was a solid base when locked. When I'm cutting sheet goods down to size I want the base to be stable. When I apply preasure to the saw I don't want the base to flex or distort while I'm trying to maintain a straight cut edge. Just a little bit of flex would reduce this to rough work only.
This Porter cable was the only one to do it outside a Festool (which is about $400). All of the other saws bases flexed while I put some downward pressure on them and rocked them a bit. Although the Bosch was pretty solid it blade is one the right.

The other feature I wanted was the blade on the left. I'm right handed and love the blade on the left. I like to be able to see the blade and in some instances I like to walk along with the saw and again, the blade on the left allows me to do that comfortably.

This Porter cable easily ride along a fence and is powerful and stable. The blade that comes with it is working pretty darn well, negligible tearout on plywood has been my experience.

The other thing I loved especially after some time using this is the fact that the saw is relatively light in hand and it's well balanced.
I like the worm drive Skil but it gets heavy using it all day. Just a few pounds even 1 or 2 really seem to make a difference.

Another thing which is small but welcome is that Porter Cable cast the distance from the edges of the base to the blade right on the base. Seems that's a measurement I don't retain between weeks of use. I got out my ruler to take down the measurement and behold, there it was already marked for me. 1 1/2" on the left and 5" on the right.

This has been a very enjoyable saw to use. My most enjoyed actually.

(More customer reviews)Finally, someone put some thought in to addressing the weak link in the good ole' Skil 77, the foot/table. The designers of the DWS535 deserve a hats off and a pat on the back just for acknowledging the problems with the Skil 77 that havehaunted me for most of my 25+ years in construction as a carpenter.
The saw came out of the box with a rafter hook big enough to hang on most TJI's. The bevel adjustment is composed of a heavy piece of magnesium cast into the foot plate backed by a steel piece making it less likely to be bent from a drop or fall.This is usualy the first thing to get tweaked on a Skil 77. The bevel adjustment also has detents at 22-1/2 and 45 degrees and will lean over to a 52 degree maximum, very nice for cutting rafters. The depth adjustment bar, although the same basic design as the 77, it looks to me to be a little bit thicker and is partially protected from the casting of the upper blade guard. This is usually the second thing that gets bent up on the 77. The foot plate itself, instead of a flat piece of magnesium or pressed steel, is cast magnesium with reinforcement ribs and bridging cast into the foot plate as a single piece and is very stout. Also on the foot plate is an additional two pairs of sights on the blade cutout in the foot plate for the alignment of precise plunge cuts, very cool. The blade lock is easily located on the top of the saw under the auxiliary handle instead ofthe front of the saw in the gearbox with a o-ring prone to leak oil all over the saw and tool box when it fails.All carpenters know not to lower a saw off a roof by it's cord but most of us still do, knowing this Dewalt has beefed up the connection between the cord and the saw with some extra clamps inside the handle.
Offered as an extra accessory, the DWS5100 rip fence is hands down the best on the market to date. The fence is more like the fence on a table saw and is a definite improvement over the little "T" shaped fences offered by most of the other competitors. Look to pay about 5x more for the fence but it's two point connection and superior cuts makes it well worth it.
Anyone in the market for a worm drive and is tired of the same problems, I think this saw is well worth a serious look and consideration.
