(More customer reviews)Light and easy to handle. Lower power than some, but the thin-kerf blade cuts through all wood I have tried without problems. I would be leery about using a regular kerf blade on it (I haven't tried). I have used it infrequently and for fairly light jobs.

The saw wanders when trying to cut following a guide. It took me a while until I discovered the reason. The base plate is grossly misaligned. The distance from the front of the blade to the edge of the plate is about 1/8 inch greater than the same distance from the back of the blade. As a result you cannot get an accurate cut by running the saw along a straightedge. There is no alignment adjustment for this condition.

(More customer reviews)This is my first skill saw I have purchased. I actually purchased the 15 amp version of this saw but the blade adjustment did not work. I returned it to lowes and they didn't have any more in stock so I came down to the 13 amp one. I was building a simple workbench and found that this saw really did the job. It had some difficulty getting through the 2x4's where the blade would actually stop spinning but the motor would keep running, but that may be because I was pushing too hard (I am relatively new at this). It would also not finish smoothly causing some splintering (again that may be my fault as well). It really cut through plywood and other, thinner, woods with ease. I LOVE the grips on these. They are not hard plastic like the other brands have and found that it was the most comfortable of them all. The laser guide was nice, but it is still good to draw a line to follow (or use a plain old guide). I was actually disappointed the 13 amp version did not come with the guide like the 15 amp did. At any rate, this is an great tool for a first time buyer and I would recommend it for a typical home user, not really for contractors and the lot.

(More customer reviews)Consumer Reports (August 2005 Issue) reviewed this saw and recommended it as a Best Buy.If your budget allows, I would recommend going with the Hitachi C7BD2 (also a CR Best Buy).The C7BD2 includes an electric brake for much quicker stopping of the blade and therefore better safety.Like the C7BD2 this saw has a powerful 15 Amp motor and a sturdy alumimum base.

I also wish both saws had better depth adjustment (there are no measurement markings to approximate the depth of cut).Lastlya Laser guide would have been nice.

(More customer reviews)Good saw and easy to use.It's calibrations were square from the factory and after 15 minutes through the owners manual I was ripping plywood.It doesn't have a laser guide but it does come with an attachable fence which can guide the saw straight provided you are cutting 12 inches or less from the edge.The blade it comes with is a bit rough so if you don't want splinters buy a finner blade or as my father in law does, put masking tape where you are going to cut.The masking tape isn't a perfect solution but it will minimize splinters.I would also recommend checking out Home Depot as I got the saw there at the time of this review for $99 with carrying case.
