(More customer reviews)While I am not new to power tools (I am an avid DIY'r, and HVAC tech).This was my first purchase of a powered compound miter saw.I had no problems with the manual that came with it, besides who really reads those?The unit for the most part is self explanitory.I had it mounted to my bench downstairs in about 20 mins, plus 15 mins to go to the hardware store for some lag bolts.Operation and adjustments were easy.Cuts like a dream.The only thing i can say bad about it, isnt really bad.I would have liked to be able to cut 8" baseboard with it but it doesnt have the capacity.I should have done more research prior.But for all my other uses, crown moulding, quarter-round, trimming out a window, I had fun and they look great.I would recomend this saw for those who arent looking to spend an arm and a leg.Plus as an added bonus, it's super light for mobility.

(More customer reviews)I reviewed this item before, but for some reason Amazon deleted my review!(And I didn't use no cuss words or nothing.)Anyway, I bought this kit in Aug 2006 for 100 bucks, and at that price it's a good deal.Here's most of what I said in my first review:

Saw: 14.4 volts is not enough for a 61/2' saw IMHO.On 14.4V the blade speed is low and the battery does not last long.I have an 18V Hitachi saw that works great.(You can easily modify this saw to run off of 18V batteries.I've been running this saw on 18V batteries for months now with no problems.Perhaps it is this advice in my first review that got that review deleted!)This saw also does not have a light like other Hitachi saws.Having a light is very nice.The LH blade is good for right handers.The blade that comes with this saw has fewer tips that blades that come with more expensive Hitachi saws, but its carbide teeth stay sharp for a long time, so fewer teeth is no big deal.This 61/2" saw will can cut 2x4s at 45 degrees.I'd give this saw 4 stars at 18V, and 3 stars at 14.4V

Drill:Very nice at 14.4V.It's light and well balanced with enough power for 99% of my jobs.The batteries last long enough; no need to go to 18V with this drill.The chuck is small and sometimes slips with round shank drill bits, so I have to use pliers to tighten the chuck.This kinda defeats the idea of a keyless chuck, does it not?The belt clip does not have a light like other Hitachi drills do.Again, Hitachi is trying to save a few bucks on this kit.I'd give the dill 4 stars because of the slipping chuck.

Light:It's ok as a work light, but it's great as a camping lantern.I don't like those Coleman gas lanterns because they are way too bright; this one puts out just enough light. 5 stars.

Charger:For some reason, Hitachi says you can only get 300 charge cycles from their batteries using this charger, vs. up to 1000 cycles using their fancier chargers.I don't know why this is so, but it comes directly from Hitachi.If you have a better Hitachi charger, I'd use it and keep the charger included with this kit as a backup.2 stars.

I've been reading a lot of Hitachi reviews that have said the batteries won't hold a charge. I have 12 Hitachi batteries: 3 are the 3AHr NiMH batteries and 7 are the 2AHr NiCads, and 2 are 1.2Ahr NiCads.They all seem to hold a charge just fine. The flashlight in this kit is great for discharging the batteries all the way before recharging. A battery will still light the flashlight quite a while after the battery seems to be "dead" in one of the tools.

So this is a good, not great kit.The higher end Hitachi kits are great, but they are much more expensive.

Big Foot Sky Hook Saw and Nail Gun Hanger Hook Review

(More customer reviews)Imounted the hanger to my framing nailer (a Hitachi NR 90AE) using the existing cap screw that secures the magazine bracket to the handle of the gun. Using one of the longer screws supplied with the hanger, I mounted a second one on my medium crown framing stapler in a similar manner.As long as you're willing to be a little creative and possibly make a minor modification to to the hanger bracket, I think you could use this hanger on most framing guns.

The bracket appears to be well made, but the mounting hardware package didn't include lock washers as called for in the installation instructions. That wasn't a problem in my case, but could be others.

Once mounted, theSky Hook makes it easy to hang the gun from framing members or the rung of a ladder, and folds easily out of the way when not in use. Note that the hook fits over standard dimensional lumber (single ply 2-by joists, trusses or rafters) but not engineered I-joists with thicker top chords.

(More customer reviews)I bought this same saw about a year ago at Lowes, I paid something like $150 for it.It's a great saw, really smooth and comfortable to use.Works great for cutting trim boards, but I've also used it as a chop saw to cut 2x6's, it doesn't bog down one bit when cutting larger stock.It's a little heavy, but to me that just means it's built better.It's also quiet compared to other miter saws I've used.This is definitely a great deal!I'm almost tempted to buy a second as a backup!

Hitachi C18DL 18 volt Li-Ion Circular Saw Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I already own the Hitachi WR18DL and CR18DL, so it was a no-brainer to get the D18DL too. The bare tool is quite reasonable and includes a blade and rip fence. The Hitachi HXP battery is too good to lay unused, so get another tool - right?

The good first. The excellent thin-kerf Hitachi carbide tip blade cuts beautifully in this saw. Fine trim work would require a blade with more teeth, but this is a great general purpose blade.

The Tool seems nose-heavy without the battery attached, but feels great when even the lightweight Li-Ion battery is loaded. Balance is good overall. It's light and fits my short, fat fingers well.

The light is a bit gimmicky in that it cannot illuminate the front edge of the sole plate, but it does turn on with the lock release rather than under power, which is nice. I'll take all the light I can get, so it's all good.

Depth and bevel adjustments are intuitive and just "sticky" enough to be useful. Cutting depth is excellent for a 6 1/2 blade - at least 3".

I have mixed feelings about the left-side blade. It's great for "quick and dirty" cutting like framing, but uncomfortable for fine control. Being right handed makes me biased to the "old standard" right side blade. For years, I thought that having to lean way over to the right to see the cut was dumb, but trying this style has convinced me that the old way is better because I'd rather not use my predominant right hand to merely steer the saw. I would prefer to use it to push and press the button and leave the left to steer. With this saw, that requires the user to cross his left arm over the saw and the work. Awkward. I'm also accustomed to leaning right by now, so it's all academic I suppose. I will have to adjust...

Now the bad. The soleplate on this tool is really thin. It seems solid enough due to good mounting, but I really doubt that it could withstand any serious drop. This is not a toss-around tool. It must be handled with a firm and gentle hand if you expect it to last. The blade guard is also rather toylike. The flip side of this flimsiness is the that the saw is much lighter because of it - especially with the Li-Ion battery. In short, this is really not a professional grade tool. It's great for the DIYer though.

The motor is by necessity light, but the 3.0Ah Li-Ion battery makes it a good cutter. It seems powerful enough if you have a sharp blade and a sure hand. I'm not certain how it would cut heavy, wet pressure-treated lumber. That is the real test and I'll leave that for another reviewer.

Let me finish up by saying that I like this saw and I would buy it again, despite some flaws. I have an big magnesium Makita for the tough stuff, so this is a great cordless supplement.

Recommended with reservations for the professional.

(More customer reviews)Got this blade for my Dewalt 705 miter saw.Very pleased with result.Cutting 2" Red Oak on 45degree miter and/or bevel the reconnected pieces are seamless.A glued up miter has a gap that consists of only the glue thickness.Struggled between this and a Forrest Chopmaster.I find it hard to believe the Forrest blade could possibly be better, and I'm certain it could not be twice as good (which is the difference in price between the two).
